Madame K is a low-key bar and restaurant hidden in the Nana area of Chinatown. It’s a relaxed but stylish place that serves excellent cocktails and a mix of Lanna Thai and Peranakan dishes. The food is bold, familiar, and full of flavor. If you know the people behind it – Khae and Gavin – you’ll recognize their signature touches. One standout is Khae’s take on khao soi. It’s now got a decadent twist, and honestly, it’s hard to stop thinking about it after the first bite.
Now, let me show you some of the bites we had, along with the drinks and the venue.

First out was the Miang Ped – Betel Leaf Wrap with Roast Duck, this appetizer brings together thin slices of smoky roast duck, wrapped in fresh betel leaves for a sharp, peppery bite. Each wrap is filled with toasted coconut, peanuts, diced lime, ginger, and shallots, then finished with a sweet and savory tamarind-based sauce. It’s a well-balanced mix of textures and flavors—rich, fresh, tangy, and just a little sweet. A punchy start that sets the tone for what’s to come.

Chili Crab Mantou Dip, this dish takes inspiration from Singapore’s iconic chili crab but serves it in a shareable, snackable format. The dip is a bold mix of crab meat simmered in a spicy, slightly sweet tomato and chili sauce—thick, rich, and full of umami. On the side, you get deep-fried mantou buns that are crisp on the outside and soft inside. They’re perfect for scooping up every bit of the sauce. The dip is great, but the buns? Genuinely excellent—crunchy, warm, and seriously hard to stop eating.

Baby Broccoli with Mala and Parmesan, a clever twist on a simple side dish, this one brings the heat. Tender baby broccoli is stir-fried with Sichuan mala spice—a numbing, peppery blend that gives each bite a kick. It’s then topped with a generous layer of grated Parmesan, adding a salty, umami-rich contrast that pulls it all together. The result is a bold mix of East and West: spicy, savory, and surprisingly addictive.

Crispy Pork with Northern Thai Chili and Tomato Dip (Nam Prik Ong), crispy pork belly is the star here—perfectly cooked with a crunchy skin and juicy layers of fat and meat. It’s served alongside Nam Prik Ong, a traditional Northern Thai dip made from minced pork, ripe tomatoes, garlic, and dried chilies. The dip is rich, tangy, and mildly spicy, balancing the pork’s richness with a fresh, savory punch. This combo is a classic Northern-style snack—hearty, flavorful, and perfect for sharing.
Now on to the mains…

Stir-Fried Black Ink Squid with Tamarind Chili Paste, this dish brings deep, oceanic flavor with a bold twist. Fresh squid is stir-fried in its own black ink, creating a rich, briny base that’s layered with a tangy tamarind chili paste. The sauce is slightly sweet, spicy, and sour—classic Thai flavor balance—with just enough heat to wake up the palate. The squid is tender, the ink adds depth, and the tamarind keeps things bright. It’s a standout for anyone who loves seafood with intensity and character.

Khao Soi Duck Confit, a classic Northern Thai curry noodle soup featuring crispy duck confit served in a rich, creamy coconut curry broth. This is a must-try dish at Madame K. Their Khao Soi perfectly balances spice and creaminess—never overpowering or bland. What sets it apart is the duck confit, which adds a rich, elegant flavor that elevates the entire dish and makes it unforgettable.
The dish is served with tender egg noodles and traditional garnishes such as pickled mustard greens, shallots, and lime, offering a satisfying combination of textures and flavors in every bite.
